I understand that each student has both their individual process and learning goals. We work together and hone in on your areas of interest. For example, chords for songwriting, theory, note reading, classical repertoire, church music, or pop songs. I tailor lessons so that you can have fun playing the music that you want to make. Beginning students are welcome!
Voice

Inside each of us there is a powerful voice that's waiting to be heard. My joy and expertise is helping people to find it. I work with students to help them release the tension patterns that block their true voice from shining through and to build their instrument so that it flows with ease at a very high level. When we reach this place, singing becomes natural and a true extension of our self-expression
Songwriting

You want to be able to express your heart & share your thoughts so that they resonate deeply with the listener. Learning about the songwriting craft is a powerful way to strengthen your Creative Voice. I’m not a believer in rules but I am a strong believer of tools. Learning the tools will help make your melodies more memorable, lyrics more engaging & titles more powerful.
Music Theory

Music Theory often gets a bad rap because it can feel complicated. My mission is is to make it accessible and easy to understand for everyone. Learning how music works helps musicians to take their craft to the next level. In addition, an understanding melody, harmony, structure and analyzation creates a solid foundation for composition

"I was recording one of my most
personal and subtle songs and it kept falling flat.
I decided to raise the key of the song
a half step and it was much better
but still not quite there.
I took a voice lesson with Meredith
and after a few weeks of
doing her vocal exercises
I could raise the song
a WHOLE STEP and
it sounded great-
no strain like when I had tried it before.
I love how the recording came out."
T. Somerville, Taos, NM
“Thank you for sending along the recording of the teleconference. How lucky am I to have a pro remind me of soooooo much of the important stuff. And you seem to come from the same soulful place that I am striving to keep in my performances.
~Willie Davis New Orleans, LA
“My vocal lessons with Meredith have helped me to relax, strengthen and improve my singing
at the core. She identified my true needs to be a better singer, beyond what I could have known myself. Her insightful and understanding
ways make her an excellent coach and I would recommend her to others.”
~Patricia Crowell, Princeton, NJ
“Meredith Blis has more patience than anyone I have ever known. She puts my daughter at ease when she is feeling frustrated and always provides feelings of accomplishment and success. She has a knack for simplifying the complicated and making even the most challenging of tasks achievable. Even though I am only a bystander during my kid’s lesson, I walk out of that room invigorated and wrapped in a blanket of calm, brimming with motivation.”
~Jenny M. Nashville, TN
“Dear Meredith, Thank you for the amazing lessons and coaching. You are truly helping me find and maximize my inner strengths so I can create a lasting legacy to leave the world. You are helping me to work through my greatest fear…. of being successful! Woo hoo! Stay Amazing!”
~Angela DiCarlo, Nashville, TN
"I was a student of Meredith's not very long ago. She made me feel so comfortable with myself and my issues with my voice. I want to say that I have worked with a few voice coaches and none of them have the passion and compassion that Meredith does. She is an amazing teacher. Whether someone is a great singer or musician, I have no doubt she can help them to get their highest potential. There is no one I would recommend over Meredith.
Thank you so much!"
~ M. Sullivan, Nashville, TN
Essentially, I grew up in the music business. My father, Milton Sincoff, was a Senior VP at Arista records so I began learning about music at a very young age. During college, I worked at record labes Elektra Records & afterward at The Hit Factory recording studio, Absolute Audio Mastering Studio & as a talent buyer, booking music venues in New York City.
And as a child, I fell in love with making music the first time I sat at a piano. My passion is to share the magic of making music with others.
After graduating with a BA from Sarah Lawrence College, I continued my education at The Juilliard School extension division where I focused on classical composition and music theory.
All throughout my career I have been blessed to study with some of the top names in the business including Tom Jackson, Renee Grant Williams & Pat Pattison. Later in life, when I began learning production & Ableton Live, I studied with the best at Berklee College of Music and Laura Escude of Electronic Creatives.
While I was in New York City, a friend reached out and asked if I would substitute some of her lessons. I discovered that I loved teaching music to people! That school hired me immediately.
A few years later, I moved to Taos, NM. In addition to working at the Taos high after school music program and the Taos Youth Music School, I began a private practice there
When I arrived in Nashville I taught at a music store called, Simon-Ripleys music and in 2012, I opened my own teaching practice on Music Row. Furthermore, I spent a number of years teaching at the Iconic World Music Nashville.
As a music artist I have independently recorded and released 2 award winning indie pop albums as well as an instrumental record for yoga & relaxation. Before landing in Nashville, I spent 10 years playing live music in New York City & around the U.S., both blues and my original piano driven alternative pop.
As a songwriter in Nashville, I sat on the Board for the Tennessee Songwriters Association International. I have received awards from TSAI for both Song of the Year & a been inducted into their hall of fame.
In addition to a music career, I am also a certified yoga instructor. This training has given me a unique level of understanding the voice, body & mind as well as specialized techniques to help artists release tension/ blocks & connect with their potential & expand their creativity. It’s amazing to experience how yoga helps to develop both voice and performance.
